Montgomery County Proclaims April 21st as “Autism After 21 Day”

April 5, 2017 //  by Shannon Doty

To boost awareness of the various needs of adults with autism, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, Council member Craig Rice, and the County Council jointly proclaimed April 21, 2017 as Autism After 21 Day. The proclamation was presented to the Madison House Autism Foundation by the Montgomery County Council at the County Council meeting in Rockville, MD on April 4, 2017 at 9:30 am. Senator Chris Van Hollen is working on a federal level to bring national recognition to Autism After 21 Day.

“Each year, our nation invests billions of dollars through education for individuals with autism and related disabilities,” said JaLynn Prince, President and Founder of Madison House Autism Foundation. “Yet we do little to ensure that our investment results in a productive and meaningful future. When school and services for individuals with autism end at age 21, most face a lifetime with little hope of employment or any opportunity to build a meaningful life. We are committed to making sure they will, indeed, have such opportunities.”

We hope you will join us in celebrating all ability on Autism After 21 Day and every day. Watch the following video for a glimpse of the proclamation ceremony.
